Dancers and or their parents can support and participate in dance focused activities and if they desire the wider social aspects of the dance community. The founders of DanSci, Harley and Ava, were both accomplished dancers before they started the business, utilising their existing skill set and harnessing their passion for dance they have gone on to build a thriving dance community business.

Business Masterclass

Due to the initial growth of DanSci, Harley and Ava quickly recognised that the business required additional skills In order to fulfill its potential. With this in mind, they booked onto January’s fully funded Micro Business Masterclass, facilitated by learndirect and held in Plymouth.

The Masterclass, run by Caroline Newns, an independent business growth consultant, encourages delegates to talk freely and direct their own learning in order to gain knowledge from the experiences of other businesses in attendance.

The session helped to validated some of the initial business decisions Harley and Eva had made during their first steps into business and they felt that Caroline equipped them with the tools they need for their businesses development, as well as the confidence to seek out support in the future. During the session, Harley and Ava were able to gain valuable business insights and share the challenges they have faced with other SMEs from across the region, an experience they found invaluable.

Business Growth at DanSci

As DanSci has grown, Harley and Ava recognised that additional business skills were required in order for their business to grow. One of the skills gaps the Masterclass helped them identify was financial administration, which was vital to support the growth of their business. Since the Masterclass Harley and Ava have successfully appointed an administrator to assist with the financial side of the business, freeing them up to concentrate on running and growing DanSci.

DanSci are looking forward to attending future Masterclasses and accessing training through learndirect and see the Skills Support for the Workforce programme as a vital resource to help them build their business skills in future.

Harley & Ava (Directors, Dan sci)

“Why wouldn’t a business up skill their staff – Industries, sectors and fashions are constantly changing and dance is no different, neither is the demand for skills, that are ultimately needed to support your core business activity”
